An introduction to some of the basics of the Spanish language including pronunciation, basic vocabulary, and cultural information regarding many of the 20 Spanish-speaking countries of the world. We will sing songs in Spanish, including some Christian-themed songs such as “Jesus loves me,” and occasionally sample foods to experience the tastes of the different countries.
Vocabulary topics to be covered include: greetings, animals, colors, numbers, months and days, family and other people, descriptions (adjectives), classroom objects, question words, clothing, food, and household objects and rooms. Grammar topics include: gender and plural forms of nouns, adjective agreement and placement, and basic verb conjugations. The class will be set up to be interactive, focused on speaking and listening and calling out words for what we see, so that we can use the language with each other as the students are learning it.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
I am certified in secondary-level Spanish, English, and French and I taught Spanish at the high school level for 14 years before choosing to become a stay-at-home mom. I have experience working with elementary-level children as a volunteer at church, through mission trips, and as a substitute teacher with Abilene ISD. I continue to take the opportunity to participate in mission trips to Spanish-speaking countries, usually on a yearly basis. I love teaching Spanish! I enjoy sharing about the countries I have visited and helping young people learn a language that is new to them. I am looking forward to working with the kids at Tiny School!
