Thank you to everyone who signed up by June 15 so we could determine the status of our classes! Tiny School registration is still open for a few more weeks.
The Big Country Home Educators (BCHE) conference is this Friday June 29, 2018 from 1:00-5:00pm at the Abilene Woman’s Club. BCHE is a wonderful volunteer organization that provides many educational opportunities for the families in the greater Abilene area. Matthew Lowe, the Tiny School organizer, will be giving a talk titled “Homeschooling? Hybrid Schooling? Public Schooling at Home? Someone explain this to me!” Please come and laugh at his jokes.
Then, stop by the Tiny School vendor table to say hi and meet some of our teachers! You can also pick up an updated flyer about our classes or several to share with friends.
In the meantime, here are some quotes to introduce you to a few of our excellent teachers.
“Growing up, I absolutely devoured books. One of my favorite genres was historical fiction, because it made history real for me using the age-old art of storytelling. This is the club I would have wanted to be in when I was in middle school.”
Sasha Pringle, Humanities Club (5th-8th)
“One of my favorite activities with a class involved connecting history, writing, art, and math while reading a quality book. Higher reading level students enriched their knowledge through research and produced an essay and even a sculpture! Beginning readers worked on sight words and decoded words connected to the book with interactive games. After reading a book, I enjoyed seeing all students work together. They used their writing skills and were so creative using knowledge from reading. Students wrote a play, gathered props, and performed for friends and family. There are many ways to connect valuable learning experiences while doing motivating activities across a variety of subjects. I think it’s fun too!”
Martha Donnell, Connections – Reading, Writing, History, and Math (2nd-5th)
“My goal is to build on children’s natural love for discovering new things and to enhance their love for science and the world around them.”
Our other excellent teachers:
Clarissa Pyeatt, Kids Yoga (6-12 Years)
Laura Massingill, Science and Nature (1st-5th)
Matt Lowe, Programming Zero (4th-8th) and Programming One (4th-8th)
Joyce McGlaun, Suzuki Baby Music (Birth – 4 Years)
Sarah Dantzler, Hilltop Academy (Elementary)
Pre-registration for the BCHE conference is here through Wednesday, June 27. You can also register at the door. We hope to see you there!
